Y1 Hedgehogs 2026-27

 

Mr Reardon is the Hedgehogs Class teacher. 

Mrs Jarman teaches the class on a Tuesday and Thursday morning. 

Mrs Divall is the Hedgehogs class Teaching Assistant.

Children will change their reading books once weekly, subject to having read them at least 3 times at home. Please send children with their reading books and diaries in everyday. Children will have their reading books changes as below: 

Red	Monday
Yellow	Tuesday
Blue	Wednesday
Green	Thursday

This terms topic is 'Me and my World'. We will be exploring ideas around our sense of identity, the world around us and also exploring space! Our writing will be inspired by some wonderful texts including Beegu, Bob - The Man in the Moon and The Way Back Home. 

In Maths, we will work very practically to develop children's early number sense and place value knowledge. We will be working with children to count, recognise and order numbers up to 20. We will then move on to identifying 1-more and 1-less than a given number within 20. Later in the term, we will begin to explore simple measurements and comparing the size of everyday objects. 

In Science, we will be exploring changes that we see in the natural world around us associated with Autumn. We will also cover the topic of Animals including Humans and learn the names of basic human body parts alongside the five senses.
