Explore Our School
Our curriculum is enriched and enhanced by the learning spaces available to our children.
From resource-rich classrooms and specialist learning spaces, to a wealth of outdoor facilities, our children have access to a wide range of high-quality, enabling learning spaces.
Internal Spaces:
LIBRARIES
We are fortunate to have wonderful, dedicated libraries at both sites which truly put reading at the heart of everything we do. Our well-stocked libraries are designed to inspire children and further develop their love of reading and books.
INFANT COMPUTING SUITE
Our computing suite is equipped with desktop computers and can accommodate 30 learners at a time. This facility enables the children to explore the computing curriculum and develop a range of ICT skills. Our junior children have access to laptops which bring learning to life in the classroom.
THE BURROW (INFANTS) AND THE NEST (JUNIORS)
The Burrow and The Nest are our dedicated in-house nurture spaces, led by a team of experienced Teaching Assistants, offering children a safe space to understand and explore emotions. The rooms are furnished in a comfortable and relaxed way, to ensure children feel safe and welcomed while being supported. The nurture team have an array of books, games, toys and resources that are used to support children’s social and emotional needs. For further information about this provision, please click here.
IVY (JUNIORS)
Ivy provides a multi-functional space in our mobile unit at the junior site. Completely re-clad in Summer 2025, the space offers a fully equipped kitchen where our children take part in Design Technology lessons. Ivy is also home to our breakfast club. Furnished as a classroom/play space, it also serves as a quiet space for our children during lunchtimes. As it is separate from our main school building, it also makes a perfect space for coffee mornings or play group sessions.
SQUIRRELS MEETING ROOM (INFANTS)
Squirrels is our dedicated meeting space. often used as a hub for training and other events, such as parent coffee mornings. Flexible furniture arrangements make this space suitable for a range of functions. It is fully equipped with a large LCD screen and refreshment making facilities.
External Spaces:
FOREST SCHOOL AND WILDLIFE AREA
We are privileged to have a large Wildlife Area within the school grounds at our infant site, which features a raised pond and an all-weather pathway. This unique resource is used throughout the year to support learning across all areas of the curriculum, including our Forest School sessions, and is enjoyed by all year groups.
INFANT PLAYGROUND
Our infant children have a variety of exciting playground structures and equipment to maximise their play and development opportunities. From the large trim-trail to our outdoor classroom, there are inspiring things to explore at every turn!
JUNIOR FIELD
Our junior children have access to our fantastic field, with far reaching views across the countryside. The field is utilised all yar round, as well as hosting our sports days and many sporting events involving local schools. Our passion for play doesn't stop when children leave the infant site, and we are committed to developing our Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) approach, making use of our facilities all year round. You can find out more about OPAL here.
SWIMMING POOL (JUNIORS)
We are fortunate to have our own swimming pool at our junior site. This enables our children to access curriculum swimming lessons (Year 4 and 5) in the familiar environment of their own school and maximising learning time in the pool. The pool is also let by two swimming schools, supporting families in our local community too.
COMMUNITY ORCHARD
Just across the road from our junior site, you will find a hidden space - our very own wildlife area. Children use the space to enhance their learning and as the trees mature, it will also become a second Forest School area. Whilst the site belongs to Ashdown School, this is very much a community space. You can find out more about the Community Orchard here.
Many of our spaces are available for hire or community use. Please contact office@ashdown.e-sussex. sch.uk if you would like further information.
