EYFS curriculum
In the Early Years at Ashdown Primary School, we believe that children learn best through positive relationships, active exploration and a strong sense of belonging. Our curriculum is built around curiosity, creativity and play, providing rich opportunities for children to discover, question and make sense of the world around them.
We value the development of independence and confidence, encouraging children to make choices, take appropriate risks, and persevere when faced with challenges. Our approach is rooted in the Characteristics of Effective Learning: we support children to play and explore with curiosity, to stay motivated and keep trying even when things feel tricky, and to think creatively and critically as they find their own solutions. These skills underpin all areas of learning and help children grow into confident, resilient and reflective learners.
Children enjoy a wide range of exciting opportunities, including Forest School, cooking sessions and themed days that bring learning to life. Through high-quality interactions and thoughtful environments, both indoors and out, we aim to create a foundation where every child feels safe, capable and inspired to learn.
