This term in Reception, our topic is ‘Come Outside’. The learning will focus on plants, growing and the natural world, encouraging the children to explore and notice the changes happening around them. Through stories, play and hands-on activities, the children will learn about what plants need to grow, as well as exploring minibeasts and the environments they live in.

We will also be learning about life cycles, including the life cycle of a butterfly, helping the children to understand how living things grow and change over time.

In Phonics and early writing, the children will continue practising their sounds and using these to read and write simple words and sentences linked to our learning. We will be focusing on applying our phonics knowledge independently and continuing to develop correct letter formation.

A very exciting part of the term will be our first school trip to Blackberry Farm in May. This will give the children the opportunity to explore animals and their young first-hand, bringing our learning to life in a real and meaningful way.

Throughout the term, learning will be creative, practical and full of opportunities for the children to explore, question and develop their confidence as young learners.
