Term 3 Learning

This term in Reception, our learning is inspired by animals and the natural world. Through stories such as Dear Zoo, the children will explore different animals, develop their imagination, and build confidence in early reading and writing. They will also learn about dinosaurs, sparking curiosity about the past and how we find out about it.

In Phonics, the children will continue to build on their learning by exploring long vowel sounds, including digraphs and trigraphs, and using these to read and spell words with increasing confidence. They will begin to apply their phonics knowledge in simple written work linked to class stories.

In Understanding the World, the children will learn about animals and their environments, as well as explore celebrations such as Lunar New Year. They will find out about similarities and differences between life in the UK and China and continue to develop curiosity about the world around them.

Creativity and imaginative play will run throughout the term, with children exploring art, music, movement and roleplay, including animal-themed artwork, sound-making and storytelling. Across all areas of learning, the children will continue to develop independence, confidence and a love of learning through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
