There are three classes in Year Six: 6 Teak with Mr Taylor, 6 Ash with Mr Angus and 6 Silver Oak with both Mrs Stephen and Mrs Olivier. Our teaching assistants are Mrs Buckingham and Miss Isaacson, and we have regular support from Mrs Jarman too.
Year 6 children are set home learning every week. This consists of mental maths, pencil and paper arithmetic, spellings and grammar. Alternating weekly, there is either a longer written activity or a greater depth Maths activity to complete too. Please ensure that an appropriate environment is provided for home learning. We encourage parents, carers, or even older siblings to go over the home learning with children, so they can help with any problems or misconceptions.
In addition, children are expected to practise multiplication tables and read regularly at home. It is helpful if parents sign their child’s journal each time they read aloud, and children can build up House Points for reading consistently at home.
Children can log in to My Maths: an interactive online resource which helps pupils to build and consolidate their knowledge of any areas they find slightly challenging. If this is a struggle, there are lessons on this website which can be reviewed.
Please use the journal provided for any short communication with the class teacher. If you do have any worries or concerns at any point throughout the year, please do not hesitate to drop us an email or make an appointment via the school office.
